Congratulations, and thank you for choosing a Clench Relief mouthpiece. I’m Dr. David Frey—inventor, dentist, and Chief Dental Officer here at Clench Relief. In the next few minutes I’ll show you how to fabricate your mouthpiece in under ten minutes.

First, lay out everything that comes in the kit:

  • The Clench Relief® Mouthpiece Frame
  • The anterior Alignment Guide stamped with the number 2
  • Two packets of dental-grade PVS putty, catalyst and base
  • A scalpel or sharp knife for trimming
  • A pencil for facial mid-line marking
  • A timer so we can work at a steady pace and let the putty set exactly when it should

Snap the alignment guide into the frame so that the words “Clench Relief” and the number 2 are upright. Center the alignment line between the words “Clench” and “Relief.” Have the patient rest their upper and lower incisors in the guide’s grooves. Check that the mid-line on the guide lines up with the chin and facial mid-line, then remove the frame—we’re ready to mix the PVS.

Start the timer. Blend the white catalyst and yellow base putty with your fingers until you see a single, uniform color. Roll the mixed putty into a hot-dog shape, split it in half, and pack each half from underneath into the two sides of the frame. Press firmly so the putty completely fills the tray, then wipe away any excess.

Insert the loaded frame and ask the patient to close gently—no hard biting—then relax their facial muscles. They can swallow a couple of times and maintain good posture while the material sets.

After about three minutes, the small test ball of excess putty should be firm. Lift the mouthpiece out from underneath. Remove the alignment guide, then let the appliance sit for another minute or two until fully cured. Use a sharp blade to scallop away any putty that extends beyond the borders of the frame, taking care not to nick the plastic.

Try the mouthpiece back in. When the patient closes, the centers of the upper and lower front teeth—and the upper and lower frenums—should line up perfectly. That confirms the lower jaw has been repositioned into its zone of comfort for the muscles and TMJ.

In less than five minutes you’ve produced a custom-fit Clench Relief mouthpiece with no lab work and none of the usual lab fees. Place it in the ventilated case and hand it to your patient—they can even wear it on their way out.
